on 04 March 2012 the moderators of BBC Have Your Say deleted the most publicly favourited comment on Mark Mardell’s blogpost about US President Barak Obama’s AIPAC speech _
comment #4 by psy_warrior
“israel uses the ‘Iran question’ to divert attention from it’s own unilaterally uninspected nuclear arsenal AND more importantly_ the continued illegal land grab from the Occupied Palestinian Territories
as for the United States_ according to indicted war-criminal and ex-israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon “the United States is enslaved to israel”
He wasn’t wrong! >: ( ”
in an email the BBC stated the comment was removed because of ‘moderation rule ‘F’ _
Abusive or disruptive behaviour is not allowed on BBC blogs. This includes:
- Using swear words (including abbreviations or alternative spellings) or other language likely to offend.
- Harassing, threatening or causing distress or inconvenience to any person or people.
- Flaming: This means posting something that’s angry and mean-spirited.
- Trolling: This means saying deliberately provocative things just to stir up trouble
Analysis of Rule F
by creating Rule F_ the BBC Trust_ have deliberately produced a guideline that is nebulous enough to give their moderation employees a ‘carte blanche’ in deciding which comments can stay and which should be censored _
Consider the following terms _
‘language likely to offend‘ _
‘causing distress or inconvenience to any person or people‘ _
‘angry and mean-spirited‘ _
‘stir up trouble‘ _
Corroboration of comment accuracy
as to the accuracy of the posted comment _ “indicted War Criminal” can be corroborated simply by Googling ‘Ariel Sharon indicted war criminal’ whence you will receive just under a quarter of a million hits including the following _ Ariel Sharon: War Criminal _
and _ concerning his comment on the US being enslaved to israel _ it is true this would have been more accurately described as ‘controlled’ _
A Hebrew Israeli radio station, Kol Yisrael, on October 3rd 2001 reported that during an argument in an Israeli cabinet meeting, Shimon Peres warned Prime Minister Ariel Sharon that unless he would heed American requests for a cease fire with the Palestinians, he could cause America to turn against Israel.
In a fit of anger, Sharon responded to Peres: “Every time we do something you tell me America will do this and will do that . . . I want to tell you something very clear: Don’t worry about American pressure on Israel. We, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it.”
Enough is Enough
sadly _ this action of yet again deleting an accurate post by BBC moderators is the latest in a long history of unfair practice which_ regardless of a string of legitimate complaints to the BBC Trust_ has been consistently employed _
Therefore_ and until such unfair and prejudicial activity by BBC staff is itself publicly moderated by licence fee payers in the UK _ this blog will publicize and highlight every action and incident that comes to its attention _
